Home Remedies for Glowing Skin

1. Facial Cleansing

To maintain the glow on your skin, it is important to cleanse your skin daily. This will help keep your skin clean, soft and free of pore-clogging debris. It also helps prevent skin breakouts.
Cleanse your face daily with a gentle cleanser, both in the morning and at night. For a natural cleanser, you can use rose water. Dip a cotton ball in rose water and cleanse your face gently.
When buying a commercial cleanser, avoid one with high alcohol content and other drying agents. Look for one made with natural ingredients.

2. Moisturizer

Moisturizing is important for healthy and beautiful skin. Irrespective of your skin type, you need to use a moisturizer.
The right moisturizer prevents your skin from drying out and looking dull. It also helps maintain your skin’s natural moisture level by sealing in the moisture already in your skin.
Plus, well-hydrated skin looks soft and supple, and does not show signs of aging soon.
The best time to apply a moisturizer is soon after you come out of your bath or shower, according to the American Academy of Dermatology (1).
You can use coconut oil, shea butter or olive oil as a natural moisturizer for your skin. Those with oily skin type can use a very light oil like jojoba oil.

3. Exfoliation

Exfoliation is a key requisite for enjoying healthy and glowing skin.
Exfoliating helps get rid of the dead skin cells that build up on the surface and gives way to new and healthy skin.
For exfoliation, oatmeal is very good.
  1. Put 2 tablespoons of instant oatmeal in a bowl.
  2. Add 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt and 1 tablespoon of honey.
  3. Mix the ingredients well.
  4. Apply the paste on your face and massage using circular motions to scrub off the dead cells.
  5. Let it sit on your skin for another 10 to 15 minutes.
  6. Again scrub it off, then rinse your skin with cool water. Pat dry your skin and apply a light moisturizer.
Exfoliation should be done only once every week or two, depending upon how sensitive your skin is.

4. Lemon

Lemon is a natural bleaching agent and helps promote clear skin.
The citric acid in lemon helps get rid of dead skin cells. Also, the vitamin C in it helps reduce any kind of spots on your skin by increasing the cell renewal process.
  • Apply freshly squeezed lemon juice on your entire face and neck, as well as other exposed body parts. Allow it to sit for 10 minutes, then rinse it off with lukewarm water.
  • Another option is to squeeze out the juice of ½ of a lemon and mix in 1 to 2 tablespoons of raw honey. Apply it on your face, and leave it on for 15 minutes before rinsing it off.
You can follow either of these remedies 3 or 4 times a week.

5. Turmeric

Turmeric is also beneficial for your skin, due to its antioxidants that help fight free-radical damage. Regular use of turmeric can give you fair, glowing and wrinkle-free skin.
  1. Make a paste by mixing equal amounts of turmeric powder and gram flour with a little water or milk.
  2. Apply it evenly on your skin and leave it on until it dries.
  3. Wash it off with lukewarm water, scrubbing your skin gently using circular motions.
  4. Do this once a week.

6. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is very rich in antioxidants that prevent free-radical activity, which can cause dull and lifeless skin.
Also, it’s an excellent moisturizer, as it can penetrate deep into underlying tissues of the skin. This helps keep the skin well-hydrated for a longer duration.
